Truck Damaged By Fire – Smith Street, Wivenhoe

A truck located within a transport company yard at Smith Street Wivenhoe has been damaged by fire on the afternoon of the 18th of July 2016.

Damage of the fire is estimated between $10,000-$15,000.

Approximately 8pm, Burnie uniform officers and three Tasmania Fire Service appliances attended Chas Kelly Transport, Wivenhoe to find flames emitting from the rear of a heavy prime mover. It took fire crews approximately 15 minutes to extinguish the fire. As a result of the fire the truck received damage to the rear of the main prime mover.

The truck involved was a liquid gas powered vehicle.

At no stage did the gas tank pose a risk of explosion, or the fire require the evacuation of surrounding residences.

Maintenance staff were on site at the time of the fire and contacted emergency services. No persons were near the vehicle at the time and as such no injuries were received.

The fire has been determined as accidental.

Tasmania Police, Tasmania Fire Service and Worksafe Tasmania attended the scene.
