Tasmania Police has welcomed 19 new constables today after completed their recruit training at the Tasmania Police Academy.

Commander Jo Stolp congratulated the new police officers on reaching the milestone after successfully completing an intensive 28-week course.

“Recruit Training Course 1 of 2026 includes ten women and nine men aged between 18 and 39, and we are excited to see the valuable contributions they will make to policing across Tasmania,” Commander Stolp said.

Course Dux Jasmyn Thompson and Runner-up Dux Morgan Evans previously worked in the Tasmania Police Radio Dispatch Services prior to their recruit training.

Constable Thompson, 20, said a career with Tasmania Police had been her firm goal over the past two years.

She described the intensive 28-week course as challenging but very rewarding, and she was now ready to start patrols.

“I’m most looking forward to just feeling that sense of responsibility. That’s why I joined. I wanted a meaningful job, and I think I have found that here with Tasmania Police,” she said.

Constable Evans, 21, said there was “something special” about bringing together the skills and knowledge obtained over the past 28 weeks into graduation, and he felt policing would be a rewarding career.

“It’s about assisting the people in my community, that have assisted me throughout my life. It’s giving back … and being there for people when they need us most,” he said.

Constable Thompson will be stationed at Devonport, and Constable Evans at Hobart.

Commander Stolp said a career with Tasmania Police provides a wide range of opportunities for personal and professional development.

“The Tasmania Police Academy plays a vital role in equipping recruits with the skills, knowledge and experience needed for operational policing,” she said.

The 19 new constables will be deployed to Burnie, Bridgewater, Devonport, Hobart and Launceston, where they will commence duties next week.
