20 Year Old Man arrested for Dangerous Driving

Police are astounded at the manner of driving of a 20 year old man on the East Derwent Highway at Geilston Bay and Lindisfarne, at 2:15pm yesterday (29/12/2015).  Police attempted to intercept a late model Silver Holden SS Utility Registration Number D13YA while travelling at speeds up to 150 km/h on the East Derwent Highway near Geilston Bay.  It drove in a number of back streets in a dangerous manner at speed and then backwards and forwards on the East Derwent Highway between Lindisfarne and Geilston Bay.

Sgt Steve Dine from Southern Roads and Public Order Services says “This Silver Utility was repeatedly travelling at high speeds, in a dangerous manner, overtaking vehicles with total disregard.”

There was a female passenger in the vehicle whom was visibly upset by the manner of driving.

Police did not pursue the vehicle, implementing other containment and observation strategies which resulted in the male being intercepted and arrested at Midway Point without incident.  He has been charged with Dangerous Driving and Evading Police and will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police are seeking witnesses to the incident and encourage any member of the public, either driving or walking in and around the Lindisfarne or Geilston Bay area, who may have seen the manner of driving of this vehicle, to contact Police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
