Additional Person Charged over Queenstown Vegetation Fires

As a result of further enquiries conducted by Police and information provided by members of the public, Queenstown Police have today charged a second person in relation to the fires from New Year’s Eve and also in relation to the fire on the 14th December 2015.

A 26 year old man has today been charged with 3 counts of unlawfully set fire to vegetation and will, along with his accomplice, face court in Queenstown in February.

Acting Sergeant Ben RAINBIRD stated “People lighting fires put many lives at risk, including those of the volunteer fire fighters who give up their time to fight these fires.  Tasmania Police will actively investigate all fires and prosecute persons responsible for lighting them.  Queenstown Police would like to thank the members of the public for their assistance and anyone with any further information is asked to contact them on 6471 3020 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
