Aggravated Robbery and Wounding – Riverside

On the 3rd October 2020 around 3am a neighbour dispute in Benjamin Street, Riverside escalated resulting in a 24-year-old male from Huonville and a 23-year-old female from Riverside being injured during an assault at a residence.   Later that morning around 9am the three offenders returned to the same residence as a result of the previous altercation.  The Huonville man was been held down while being punched and stabbed by the group resulting in serious cuts to his hand and knee requiring surgery at the Launceston General Hospital. The man remains in a stable condition at the Launceston General Hospital. The 23-year-old female was chased down by two of the offenders and dragged to the ground where she was punched several times to the head.   It was during this attack that a mobile phone was stolen from the young woman.

Police were notified of the incident and attended.  As a result of a lengthy investigation today, several people were arrested and charged over the matter.  Two will appear before an out-of-hours session of the Court of Petty Sessions tomorrow morning (4/10/2020).

Investigations have now concluded with the 26-year-old male from Riverside being charged with wounding and assault x 2, the 33-year-old female from Riverside with wounding and aggravated robbery.  Two youth aged 16 from Riverside and 14-year-old youth from Ravenswood were bailed to appear on the 17th December 2020 at the Youth Justice Court in Launceston.  The first youth was charged with wounding and aggravated robbery and the younger of these females charge with obstructing and abusing police along with drug related offences.

During the incident, a black Holden sedan owned by one of the victims at the residence was damaged. Police are seeking information from the public which may help to the identity of the driver of a white/silver Toyota Prado with bulbar and snorkel which may have been involved in this incident and caused that damage.

Police believe that this was an isolated incident and all parties were known to one another.
