Approach to child

Hobart CIB detectives are investigating a report that a man approached a child in Sandy Bay yesterday afternoon.

A 13 year old school student was walking on Churchill Avenue about 1pm yesterday when a man driving a small white vehicle pulled alongside and offered him lollies.

The boy has told police he refused the lollies and then the man stopped the car, got out, and told the boy to get in the vehicle.

The boy ran away.

The man is described as about 40 years old, tanned skin, medium build, about 182cm, with black hair and a black beard.

The vehicle is described as a white Hyundai i30.

The descriptions of the man and the vehicle are different to that from the incidents at Ogilvie High School on 18 November and Pottery Road, Lenah Valley, on 4 November.

There have also been reports on social media of a man approaching a child in the Hobart CBD yesterday.  Police have spoken to the man and would like to reassure the community this was not an attempt to approach a child and there is no need for concern.

Police would like anyone who witnessed or has information about the Churchill Avenue, or the previous incidents, to contact them on 131 444 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
