Armed robbery of taxi driver, Mowbray

At about 9:50 pm on Wednesday December 7 2011, an armed robbery of a taxi driver occurred at the entrance to the Mowbray Racecourse off Jellico Street, Mowbray.

The driver of the taxi was a 55-year-old Newnham man.  The taxi was stopped at the entrance when a man has approached and threatened the driver with a knife.  The man has then fled on foot through the grounds of the racecourse, with an amount of cash.

The man is described as being about 19 years old, short, stocky, clean shaven with a ‘pudgy’ face.  He was wearing a dark hooded jumper.

Detectives and uniform police attended the area and investigations commenced.
