Attempted armed robbery
A 21 year old woman was confronted by a 16 year old male youth wielding a blade in Augusta Road, Lenah Valley, on Tuesday at 12.50 pm.
Acting Detective Inspector Craig Joel of Hobart CIB said that after following the female for a short distance, the youth demanded the female’s mobile telephone and made other comments of a sexual nature.
The female called for assistance and the youth fled.
Uniform police and detectives from Hobart Criminal Investigation Branch responded promptly and conducted investigations. Detectives identified the youth and with the assistance of help from the public, conducted a search yesterday morning and located the youth.
The youth, from Moonah, was interviewed and charged with attempted armed robbery. He will be subject to the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
“The community should feel safe and be safe in public spaces and such behaviour will not be tolerated,” Acting Detective Inspector Joel said. “All efforts will be made to prevent and detect this type of behaviour.”
