Burglary at Shearwater IGA and attempted forced entry to Bendigo Bank ATM

Police have arrested and charged a 21 year old Shearwater man with Burglary and Stealing matters allegedly committed at the Shearwater IGA and Bendigo Bank ATM.

Overnight on 27 and 28 November 2017, police were called to an alarm at the Shearwater IGA supermarket.  Police and a private security company attended and observed damage to a window at the front of the supermarket.  The ATM attached to the supermarket was damaged along with an ATM belonging to Bendigo Bank.

The damage to the ATMs was consistent with someone trying to force entry with an implement.  No money was taken during the incident.

The 21 year old man was located within the vicinity and arrested by police.  He has been bailed to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court on 29 January 2018.  Subsequent investigations resulted in the location of tools used during the Burglary and recovery of stolen property from the Supermarket.

The Shearwater IGA supermarket has returned to trading.
