Police search and rescue teams are currently rescuing two overdue bushwalkers from the Leven Canyon area near Loongana. 

Search and rescue ground parties and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter have been searching the area this morning for a man and woman in their 50s overdue from a bushwalk they were expected to complete yesterday.

The man and woman were sighted from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter a short time ago. 

Search personnel will be winched down to the pair to provide assistance prior to retrieval from the area. 

Poor weather conditions including rain in the area are making the rescue challenging for search parties.

Two bushwalkers have been safely rescued from the Leven Canyon area near Loongana.

The man and woman are being flown in the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to the Launceston General Hospital for medical assessment after being exposed to cold temperatures overnight.
