Cataract Gorge assault update

Thanks to the public, Launceston CIB has identified the man pictured in last week’s released photo of the person of interest in the Cataract Gorge assault.

“At this stage we have eliminated him as a suspect in the assault and are therefore again asking for any public assistance in relation to the incident,” Detective Inspector Kim Steven said.

A female walker was assaulted by a man about 4.15pm on Sunday 31 March as she was walking along the track near the old Duck Reach power station. She was not injured during the incident.

The man is described as wearing a khaki shirt, baggy track pants, being between 174 cm and 180cm tall, with blonde bushy eyebrows, fair complexion, blonde scruffy hair, of slim build weighing around 70kg, with a slender face and a pointed chin, aged in his early to mid-20s.

Launceston Police is requesting any witnesses who may have observed this man in the area to come forward and speak to police on 131444.
