Charges for firearm offences

A 26 year old Ulverstone man has today been charged by the Devonport CIB in relation to aggravated burglary and stealing and numerous firearm offences. The man is currently on remand in relation to other matters and he will appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court on Friday 10 September 2010.

The burglary charge relates to the theft of four firearms and ammunition from a West Ulverstone home which is alleged to have occurred on Saturday 14th August 2010. The stolen firearms include three double barrel shotguns and a .22 bolt action rifle. Two of the shotguns are described as antique.

The firearm offences relate to the shootings which occurred at Armitage Crescent in Burnie and Nixon Street in Devonport during Saturday evening. It will be alleged that one of the stolen shotguns was used in the shootings.

The shootings have been the subject of a joint investigation by both the Burnie and Devonport CIBs and police would like to thank the public for their assistance to date.

“The public are alerted to the fact that the stolen firearms have not been recovered and police are appealing for any information which may assist in their recovery,” said  Detective Inspector Wright.
