At approx 1230 hrs on Tuesday 4 January 2010, a 20 tonne crane was travelling North on the East Derwent Highway, Risdon Vale, when it lost control and rolled three times before coming to rest adjacent to the entrance to Risdon Prison.

The driver and sole occupant of the crane, a male in his 40’s from Lachlan died instantly at the scene. There were no other vehicles involved in the incident.

The police Accident Investigation Squad, transport inspectors and officers from Workplace Standards were all in attendance and have yet to determine what caused the rollover.  A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
