Crash – Barrack Street, Hobart

At approximately 17:15hrs on Wednesday 17 August 2022, emergency services attended a motor vehicle accident involving a cyclist and a Metro Bus at the intersection of Liverpool and Barrack Street, Hobart.

Preliminary investigations indicate the bus was travelling through a green light at this intersection when it was struck by the cyclist travelling down Barrack Street.   The cyclist involved; a 27-year-old New Norfolk man received non life-threatening injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the Royal Hobart Hospital.  The cyclist was not wearing a helmet.

Police do not believe speed, alcohol or drugs were a factor in this accident, but advise that this is a timely reminder for the wearing of appropriate safety equipment when travelling on bicycles and scooters.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident and for any dash-cam footage and can contact 131444 with any information.
