Detectives Investigating Overnight Business Burglaries

Detectives from Launceston CIB are investigating a series of supermarket burglaries that occurred overnight.

Just after midnight this morning, unknown offenders have stolen a white 2003 Ford Courier utility (with the registration EU8875) from a business in Hobart Road, Youngtown.

After stealing the vehicle, the offenders appear to have attempted several business burglaries across the greater Launceston area.

They have then gained access to the rear of the Coles Supermarket in Joffre Street, Mowbray by smashing a window. Staff on site have disturbed the offenders, who moments later evaded police in the stolen Ford utility.

At around 2:00am, the same offenders have broken into the Coles Supermarket on Elphin Road, Newstead and gained access to cash registers on the premises.

The offenders have also broken into the Woolworths Supermarket in Hobart Road, Kings Meadows by again smashing a window and gained access to the cash registers.

The stolen Ford Courier was later located on Blessington Road, St Leonards having been set on fire.

The offenders are described as being three males who were all wearing face coverings.

Anyone who may have sighted the white utility or may have any information is asked to contact the Launceston CIB on 131 444 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperstas.com.au
