Driver charged with high range drink driving and speeding offences

A 34 year old man from Austins Ferry was detected driving at high speed on the Brooker Highway at Rosetta on Sunday evening.

Police detected the driver at a speed of 127 km/h in an 80 km/h speed zone and upon intercepting the driver, conducted a breath test.

The driver was conveyed to Glenorchy Police Station where a breath analysis was conducted and a reading of 0.216 was returned.

Acting Sergeant Ann Edge from Southern Road and Public Order Services said: “This act of driving is not only disappointing but extremely dangerous.  He has put not only himself but every other person using the road at that time in danger.  I would like to take this opportunity to remind the public that Tasmania Police could be anywhere at any time, and if you are doing the wrong thing you will get caught.”

The male driver was charged with drink driving and speeding, his vehicle was clamped for 28 days and he received an instant 2 year disqualification from driving by police. He will appear in court at a later date to answer to charges relating to his driving.
