Drugs Intercept

A report to police of dangerous driving on the Midland Highway has led to a significant drug seizure.

At 9am on Monday 22 December, police responded to a call reporting a car overtaking dangerously on the Midland Highway heading towards Bagdad.

The vehicle was located by police and the driver pulled over. It’s alleged the driver took a backpack from the car and ran through adjacent paddocks.

The area was searched by police and a 36 year old man from Beaconsfield was found in a rivulet about 15 minutes later.

It’s alleged the backpack contained a significant number of prescription tablets, a small bag of ICE and other drugs with a total street value of approximately $11,000. The bag also contained more than $16,000 in cash.

The 36 year old faces charges of Trafficking. He appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court on 23 December and was remanded to appear again on 10 March 2015.
