Fatal ATV crash – Wayatinah

At approximately 3.15am on Sunday 31 October 2021 police and emergency services arrived at the scene of a fatal crash involving a Polaris four wheeler side by side ATV. The scene of the crash was on a gravel road, Father of Marshes Road, off Catagunya Road, Wayatinah

Sadly an 18 year old male from Glen Fern who was the passenger in the ATV has died. The 25 year old male driver from Hamilton was also taken to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

Police, Tasmania Ambulance Service (TAS), Crash Investigation Services and Forensic Services attended the scene.

Preliminary investigations reveal that speed may be a contributing factor to this crash. It appears that the driver of the ATV has lost control on the gravel road, crossed to the incorrect side of the roadway where the ATV has rolled coming to rest on the correct side of the road for the direction of travel. Preliminary investigations also reveal that both the driver and the passenger were wearing seat belts.

A full investigation will be conducted into this matter with Crash Investigation Services having carriage. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Tasmania Police offer our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the family, friends and loved ones of all those involved at this difficult time.
