On the 13^th of January 2022 at approximately 4:45pm, Police and Emergency Services were tasked to attend a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Wellington and High Streets, Longford. The crash involved a truck towing a excavator turning from Wellington Street into High Street and a motorbike, which was travelling in a southerly direction, colliding with the turning truck.

Sadly a 39-year-old male from Newstead, who was the pillion passenger on the motorbike, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 53-year-old male from Longford, who was the driver of the motorbike, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Launceston General Hospital for treatment.

A 24-year-old male from Youngtown, who was the driver of the truck, suffered no physical injuries as a result of the incident.

Investigations are continuing in relation to the crash, however initial investigation indicate speed might be a contributing factor.

Several traffic diversions were implemented due to the crash, whilst investigation were conducted by Police. All traffic diversions have since been lifted.
