Fatal Pedestrian Crash – Hobart – 19/09/2019

A 39 year old female pedestrian from the United Kingdom has died after being struck by a car at the intersection of Argyle and Collins Street, Hobart.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:15pm on Thursday the 19th of September 2019 when a NSW registered Holden SUV turned right from Argyle Street into Collins Street. The 53 year old male driver failed to give way to pedestrians crossing Collins Street and as a result the female pedestrian was impacted by the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was unlicensed at the time of the crash.

Police, Fire and Ambulance services attended the scene and the female pedestrian was rushed to Royal Hobart Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. The driver of the SUV was uninjured.

Forensic Services and Crash Investigation Services attended the scene and carried out an investigation of the scene and the area leading up to the crash. Collins Street between Argyle Street and Market Place was closed for four hours whilst investigations were carried out.

Initial investigations suggest inattention may be contributing factor in the crash.

Acting Sergeant Adam HALL is seeking any person who witnessed the crash or may have dash cam footage of the white Holden prior to the crash to come forward.
