Fatal Pedestrian Crash – Montrose Road, Montrose – 06/05/2020

A 62-year-old female Chinese National has died after being struck by a vehicle on Montrose Road, Montrose at approximately 4.45pm. The female was walking in an easterly direction on the side of Montrose Road with her husband when she was struck by an eastbound Silver Holden Vectra hatch.

The crash has occurred after the driver, a 41-year-old male from Montrose, lost control of his vehicle on a closed right hand bend crossing to the incorrect side of the road striking the female.

The female was declared deceased at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics. The driver and his 46-year-old male passenger were uninjured in the crash. The driver was conveyed to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Police, Ambulance Tasmania, TFS and SES all attended the scene. Montrose Road was closed for several hours whilst Police Forensic and Crash Investigation Services personnel investigated the scene.

Initial investigations indicate that excessive speed is a contributing factor in the cause of the crash. The use of alcohol or drugs are not suspected. The cause of the crash continues to be investigated.
