Fatal vehicle crash – Wilmot

At about 1.38pm this afternoon Tasmania Police and Tas Ambulance Service responded to a call of a man suffering a medical episode on Cradle Mountain Road near Wilmot.

Emergency services attended and found a man in a red Hyundai Accent hatch. Paramedics attended to him however he subsequently died at the scene.

The man was a 61 year old tourist from Tingira Heights, N.S.W. on holiday with his wife. It appeared they were travelling towards the Wilmot area when he suddenly became unwell. The vehicle collided at a low speed with a rock embankment before coming to stop on the roadway. The man’s wife, a 58 year old was not injured.

Traffic was diverted around the scene while an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident was carried out. Officers from Forensic Services and Crash Investigation attended the scene.
