Police investigating a structure fire in New Town, Hobart, early this morning are calling for members of the public with relevant information to come forward.

Tasmania Police and Tasmania Fire Service were notified of the fire at a vacant house at Raluana Lane, New Town, about 2.35am on Thursday.

TFS confirmed the house was not occupied, before containing and extinguishing the fire. The property sustained significant damage.

Investigations are continuing and while the cause of the fire remains undetermined, police suspect it may have been deliberately lit.

A witness reported seeing two tall men, on bicycles, in the area shortly after the fire started.

Anyone who saw people acting suspiciously in the area of Raluana Lane early this morning, or has CCTV or dashcam footage, is asked to contact police on 131 444. Please quote ORS 816881.
