As a result of firearms related searches conducted in Southern Tasmania yesterday, 15 firearms have been seized by police, and a man will be summonsed to appear before the Court. 

Officers from Tasmania Police Firearms Services, Dog Handlers Unit and Oatlands Police conducted firearms related searches in Dodges Ferry and Oatlands which resulted in the seizure of 15 unregistered firearms.

As a result of the searches, a 68-year-old man from Dodges Ferry will be proceeded against for numerous firearms related offences. He will be summonsed to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

The searches were conducted as a result of information obtained through Operation Lowkey – a multi-agency investigation targeting illicit firearms.

Anyone with information in relation to illicit firearms or firearms related offences is urged to report to police on 131 444 or through Crime Stoppers online at crimestopperstas.com.au – information can be provided anonymously. 

Unregistered or unwanted firearms can be surrendered to police or licenced firearms dealers without any action being taken in relation to possession offences. People should ensure that contact is made prior to attending.
