Bridgewater Police have commenced targeted operations this weekend at the Greenbanks Industrial Estate to deter hooning behaviour on the streets.

As a result:

• A 17 year old Old Beach youth was charged with operating a vehicle in an unnecessary execution of speed, acceleration or sustained loss of traction; and
• A 20 year old Glenorchy man was charged with operating a vehicle in an unnecessary execution of speed, acceleration or sustained loss of traction and evade police.

Both of the drivers were arrested and had their vehicles clamped.

Both offenders have been bailed to appear in court at a later date.

Police will continue their targeted patrols of the area.

Inspector Philippa Burk, Bridgewater Divisional Inspector said: “You can expect to be detected and suffer significant fines and or arrest and clamping and or confiscation of your vehicle should you engage in this anti-social hooning related behaviour in the Greenbanks Industrial Estate.”

“This type of behaviour is risky, aggravating and annoying to the general public. People who drive their vehicles in this manner put other law abiding motorists at risk and risk their own safety.”
