Information appeal re fire damage to electorate office

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after fire damage was caused to an office premises in Best St, Devonport in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called to the premises, the electorate office of Jeremy Rockliff, at 12.20am after the intruder alarm activated.

On arrival officers found flames around the external front window area which were quickly extinguished.

The flames had begun to burn some carpet directly under the door and the office there was smoke in the inside.

Two windows suffered minor cracking at the base due to the heat and initial investigations suggest a liquid accelerant was used on the external frontage.

There was no evidence of entry gained to the premises. Damage is estimated at several thousand dollars.
