Investigation ongoing into Shorewell Park firearms incident

The investigation into a firearms incident involving police at Shorewell Park this morning is continuing.

Western District Commander Debbie Williams said police were called to the property about 8:30am, following reports of an armed man acting aggressively, making threats and firing a weapon.

“Police arrived on scene and attempted to negotiate with the man, who was armed with a shotgun,” she said.

“These negotiations were unsuccessful, and the man began firing towards police.”

“He was then shot in the shoulder.”

“The 25-year-old man was taken into police custody at the scene and provided with first aid, before being treated by paramedics and taken to hospital.”

“I understand he’s in a stable condition and will undergo surgery this afternoon.”

“As is usual practice for an incident such as this, the Tasmania Police Professional Standards Unit is conducting a full investigation.”

“We would like to thank the local community for their assistance as we carry out our investigations. We appreciate their patience and understanding.”
