A 20-year-old Burnie man is in custody after committing a $40,000 Burglary of well-known Burnie Jewellery Store, Dean Walker Designs.

Police will allege during the early hours of Sunday morning, the male responsible forced entry into the Jewellers by smashing a glass door.  Inside he smashed display cabinets and removed various items of jewellery estimated to be worth approximately $40,000 before fleeing on foot.

Police were successful in identifying the male involved and he was safely taken into custody at his home address without further incident, he is currently being held pending the outcome of an after-hours court.

Anyone with further information or who may have observed a male acting suspiciously in the vicinity of Dean Walker designs located at Wilmot Street, Burnie during the early hours of Sunday morning are encouraged to contact the Burnie Police Station on 131444 or Crime Stoppers.
