Launceston driver detected speeding 65km/h above the limit

A Mayfield man will appear before the court after he was intercepted driving unlicensed and speeding 65km/h above the limit in Launceston on Tuesday.

Around 3pm on Tuesday officers from Northern Marine Services detected a gold Holden Commodore travelling south on the East Tamar Highway at 165km/h, 65km/h above the posted speed limit. At the time the road was wet and weather conditions were extremely poor.

With the assistance of members from Launceston uniform, police safely intercepted the vehicle near Rocherlea.

The 47-year-old Mayfield man who was driving, has never held a drivers licence, and tested positive to a roadside drug test.

The man will appear before the court at a later date charged with numerous offences. His vehicle was clamped for a period of 28 days.
