Major police operation targets drug trafficking

Three people have been arrested and currently in custody following a major police operation in Launceston this morning targeting drug trafficking.

A 38 year old Newstead man, a 28 year old Kings Meadows man and a 26 year old Mowbray woman are currently in custody as part of an ongoing investigation.

This morning, Wednesday 13 November, about 60 members of Northern Drug Investigation Services and CIB, supported by general and specialist police including drug detection dogs, simultaneously executed a number of search warrants at a number of addresses in the Launceston area.

Significant seizures have been made as a result of the investigation. This includes:

  • Traffickable quantity of drugs, including ICE, MDMA and cannabis
  • Significant quantity of cash

Today’s searches relate to an extensive ongoing investigation targeting the organised trafficking of illicit drugs including crystal methylamphetamine (ICE) in Tasmania.

Investigations and searches of the properties are continuing and police expect to provide an update on charges in due course.

Detective Inspector Fox said that illicit drugs have a damaging impact on our community and Tasmania Police remains committed to targeting the supply of illicit drugs in the community.

“Criminals involved in the manufacture and distribution of drugs in Tasmania are on notice. We will identify you, we will continue to target sea, air, mail and freight ports, and we will continue to detect, disrupt and deter the importation of illicit drugs into Tasmania,” Detective Inspector Fox said.
