Man Arrested Following Sandy Bay Incident

A 37 year old Ellendale man has been charged following an incident in Sandy Bay last night.

At 9:30pm on Friday 12 March, police observed a red Ford Escape SUV being driven erratically near the intersection of Gladstone Street and Sandy Bay Road, Hobart.

The vehicle was then intercepted at the intersection of Byron Street and Sandy Bay Road where it is alleged the driver then reversed and collided with the front of the police vehicle which was stationary behind the Ford Escape.

Nobody was injured as a result of the crash.

The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was then taken into custody by police.

The man was then taken to the Hobart Police Station where he was charged with motor vehicle stealing and numerous driving offences including drive a motor vehicle while exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit.

He has been since been bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrate’s Court in May.

Inquiries by Hobart Police have confirmed that the car had just been stolen from an address in Hobart and was later observed by police.
