Man arrested following vehicle collision and evade incidents

Police have arrested a 25-year-old man from George Town following two separate ramming incidents in northern Tasmania today.

The vehicle of interest, a silver Honda Accord, was located in bushland near Mount Direction at about 3.30pm, after an intensive and co-ordinated search involving a number of police resources, including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

The man was located nearby and taken into custody without incident a short time later.

Inspector Adam Mollineaux of North East Division thanked the public for their assistance in the matter.

“Information received from the public assisted us greatly to locate this individual,” he said.

“While this individual did not pose a physical threat to the community, his manner of driving was of great concern to police.”

“The man is currently assisting police with our enquiries.”

“Anyone who may have seen a silver Honda sedan (registration number A98FP), or who may have dash cam footage of it being driven in the George Town / Mount Direction areas is still asked to contact police on 131 444”.

Information can also be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
