Man arrested over Bridgewater shooting

A 28 year old man was arrested early this morning in relation to a shooting at Bridgewater earlier this month.

The man was taken into custody without incident in a planned police operation at a motel in Hobart’s northern suburbs.

The man will be detained while investigations continue throughout the day.  He is unlikely to appear in court today.

Detectives are continuing to investigate a targeted attack in Albion Road, Bridgewater, on Sunday night, 19 August, where a24 year old man was shot in the stomach.

The man has regained consciousness and is under medical supervision.

Detective Inspector Craig Joel said: “The lives of two young men have been irreversibly impacted by this attack.  One man has serious injuries and the other is in police custody facing very serious charges.”

Inspector Joel thanked the Bridgewater and Gagebrook community for rallying against the violence.

“From the very outset detectives have worked hard to find this man.  The arrest of this man would not have been possible without the support of the local community who provided information and general support for investigators,” he said.

“We have and must work together to make sure other young men don’t end up in this situation.  There are other ways to settle these disputes without ruining the lives of the family of the young man who was shot, but also the family of the young man who faces the prospect of jail.”

Detectives would remind people of the blue Holden Commodore, registration DQ8428, that is a key piece of the puzzle.  The vehicle was later recovered burnt out but this vehicle is distinctive and may have been captured by CCTV in the local area or around Hobart.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestopperstas.com.au.
