Man charged after police operation in Launceston

A 29 year old Kings Meadows man has been charged after a police operation in Launceston this morning.

At approximately 10am this morning, as a result of an ongoing operation, Launceston police attempted to intercept a stolen 200 Series Land Cruiser in the area of the Launceston Golf Club.   The vehicle subsequently evaded interception and as a result, a vehicle immobilising device was successfully deployed.

A short time later the stolen vehicle collided with a Corolla Sedan at the intersection of Elphin and Hoblers Bridge Road at Newstead, extensively damaging that vehicle.

The driver of the sedan was taken to Launceston General Hospital for observations but is not believed to have suffered significant injury.   The driver of the stolen vehicle fled on foot but was taken into custody a short distance away.

A 29 year old Kings Meadows man will appear in an out of hours court and be charged with a number of offences including the theft of the 200 Series Land Cruiser which was stolen from Launceston on 29 April.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a grey 200 series Land Cruiser driving erratically in the area of Newstead around 10am today.
