Man charged in relation to serious assault at Railton where man was critically injured

A man has been charged with committing an unlawful act intended to cause bodily harm in relation to a serious assault at Railton yesterday where a man was critically injured.

Shortly after 8.30am, emergency services attended a private residence following reports a man had been assaulted.

The alleged offender had left the scene and was arrested at a nearby location a short time later.

The 42-year-old man from Tarleton has been detained to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court tonight.

The victim, a 48-year-old man from Railton, remains in the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition. 

The victim and offender are known to each other, and there was no threat to the wider community.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
