Man charged with child exploitation offences

A 30-year-old Southern Tasmanian man has been charged with child exploitation offences, following a Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET) investigation involving Tasmania Police and the Australian Federal Police.

During a search of a Hobart property today, police located a significant quantity of child exploitation material across multiple electronic devices. The material included images, videos and online chat messages relating to child exploitation.

Police seized a total of 19 electronic devices in the search, as well as a small quantity of ammunition.

The man has been charged under the Commonwealth Criminal Code Act for the following offences and will appear in court in Hobart later today.

  1. Use Carriage Service For Child Abuse Material
  2. Possessing or controlling child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service
