Man charged with multiple burglary and stealing offences
Police investigating a series of burglary and computer fraud crimes in the Launceston area have charged a Mowbray man with multiple offences and seized a significant quantity of allegedly stolen property.
The 33-year-old man was arrested during a search of a Mowbray property on Friday, 9 October. He has been remanded in custody ahead of his next appearance in the Launceston Magistrates Court on 4 November.
Charges include:
• Burglary x 11
• Stealing x 14
• Computer related fraud x 28
• Common assault x 2
• Aggravated assault x 1
• Wounding x 1
• Destroy property x 1
• Trespass x 2
Detectives from Northern Criminal Investigation Division initially attended the Mowbray property last week in relation to an alleged wounding incident. The man was arrested on site and safely taken into custody.
While at the property, police conducted a search which resulted in the seizure of a loaded slam gun, a machete and a significant quantity of property which investigators allege is linked to burglary, stealing and computer-related fraud matters in the Launceston area between June and October this year.
Police believe there may be additional victims who have not yet reported incidents and are urging anyone who has been targeted to come forward.
The alleged offending predominantly involved theft from unlocked vehicles, with personal items being targeted.
Police remind the community to take simple steps to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime, including ensuring vehicles are locked at all times and valuables are removed from sight.
