A Penguin man has been arrested and charged following a number of alleged dangerous driving incidents in North West Tasmania yesterday.

About 1.10pm on Tuesday, police received reports that a white vehicle had allegedly left the scene of a traffic crash on the Bass Highway at Camdale.

A short time later in an unrelated incident police intercepted a white Honda Accord for driving offences on Turrung Street, Cooee.

The driver of the vehicle returned a positive oral fluid test and was taken to Burnie Police Station for further testing.

Upon arrival at the station, it was established that the white Honda Accord matched the description of the vehicle that had been involved in the earlier hit and run traffic crash.

Further investigations determined that the vehicle had allegedly been involved in an earlier dangerous driving incident about 1.02pm on the Bass Highway between Wynyard and Camdale, prior to the traffic crash.

The 24-year-old driver was charged with:
• Dangerous driving
• Disqualified driving
• Contravene conditions of a notice
• Abuse police
• Destroy and injure property.

He was detained in custody and will appear in court later today.

Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the white Honda Accord, registration J20MD driving dangerously between Wynyard and Camdale, including any dash cam footage. In particular, police would like to speak with the driver of a white Audi (QLD registration similar to 666NR8) that may have witnessed the alleged dangerous driving.
