Man charged with multiple road safety and drug offences

A 47 year old Wynyard man has been arrested and charged with drug offences after his vehicle was intercepted by police.

Police intercepted a vehicle entering an address in Wynyard about 8.40pm on Thursday, and the 47 year old male driver was subject to an oral fluid test, which provided a positive indication for illicit substances.

Police subsequently initiated a search for illicit substances at which time the man allegedly obstructed police by attempting to flee the scene with keys to his vehicle.

Police pursued the man on foot and apprehended him a short time later.

Police gained entry to the vehicle at which time a large quantity of cannabis was located in the vehicle.

The man was bailed to appear before the Burnie Magistrates Court on multiple road safety and drug charges, including the Trafficking of a Controlled Substance, on 17 August.

Anyone who has information about drug trafficking in the community should contact Police on 131444 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
