A man has been charged with murder in relation to the death of a woman at a New Town residence.

About 4pm on Saturday, a woman was located deceased within a residence on Lissadell Court.

While a formal identification has not yet been completed, the deceased is believed to be a woman aged in her 60s who resided at the address.

Detectives from South East CIB have now charged a 56-year-old man from New Town with murder.

He has been detained to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court tomorrow.
