A man has been charged with murder in relation to the death of a woman at a Huonville residence this morning.

About 4.30am today, a woman was located deceased within a residence on Stride Street.

The deceased is believed to be an 85-year-old woman who resided at the address.

Detectives from South East Criminal Investigation Branch have now charged a 55-year-old Huonville man with murder.

He has been detained to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
