Man dies bushwalking in state’s south-west

Sadly, a man has died while bushwalking at Mount Anne in Tasmania’s south west.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene about 7.30pm after a group of three walkers, all believed to be aged in their 70’s, were on a day walk at Mt Anne when they became separated.

One of the party – a 72 year old man from Canberra– was unable to be located.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the scene, where the body of a man carrying a backpack was located at the base of Mount Anne.

Due to the difficult terrain, search and rescue ground team members were deployed to the area overnight.

It’s expected the helicopter will be utilised to retrieve the man’s body today.

Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
