Man extradited to Tasmania – Manslaughter Charge

A 36 year old man has been extradited by Glenorchy CIB detectives to Tasmania from Victoria.

Detective Inspector Craig Joel said: “The man was arrested on warrant in Victoria on 18 September 2018 by Victoria Police detectives and thereafter transferred into the custody of Glenorchy CIB detectives.  The man appeared in the Magistrate’s Court of Victoria on Tuesday night and again today in the Hobart Court of Petty Sessions.”

“The man has been charged with one count of manslaughter arising out of the death of a 7 year old boy in Mount Lloyd on Saturday 22 August 2015.”

“The police investigation has been conducted in close liaison with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.”

“The young boy’s family have been advised and will be provided with necessary support.”

“Police allege the 36 year old man cut down a tree in circumstances that were dangerous and caused the death of the 7 year old boy who was seated in a car.”

The man will next appear in the Hobart Magistrate’s Court on 18 October 2018.
