Multiple Speeding Drivers Detected Within Roadworks Zone

Police from Southern Road and Public Order Services suspended a mainland driver’s licence after he was caught speeding excessively at Spring Hill today.

Acting Inspector Justin Lawson said the 27-year-old driver from Queensland was caught travelling at 122km/h in a 40km/h roadworks zone, on the Midlands Highway about 3pm.

“Travelling at such speeds in an area of altered road conditions is extremely dangerous, placing all road users in the area at risk and more specifically, road workers who expect to be able to operate a safe work environment,” he said.

“The driver has had his licence disqualified for 4 months, on top of a 6-demerit point and $989 penalty.”

“Another driver was caught travelling at 91km/h, while three others were captured travelling in excess of 70km/h, all within the same 40km roadworks zone.”

“Targeting this sort of high risk driving behaviour will always be a priority to Tasmania Police.”

Police urge all motorists to drive to the speed limit to avoid crashing and killing or seriously injuring themselves or someone else.
