Man in custody following alleged armed robbery at Bridgewater

A 29 year old Bridgewater man is in custody following an alleged armed robbery at a Bridgewater business this morning.

 

Police received a call to attend the Priceline Pharmacy in Greenpoint Road, Bridgewater in relation to an armed robbery, about 9.50am. It was reported at the time that the single male offender wearing all black with a hoodie had been carrying a gun.

 

Police allege that the man entered the store, demanded money from a staff member while at the time showing something that was black in appearance which was in his pocket. The staff member handed the man cash after which he fled the store on foot.

 

Within 10 minutes, numerous police resources saturated the area and a man fitting the description of the offender was located near the scene.

 

Police have not been able to confirm that a firearm was used and the man apprehended soon after did not have any weapon with him.

 

At the time of the robbery there were other staff members and several customers within the store. No-one was physically injured in the incident.

 

 

 

Investigations are underway with a number of enquiries to be conducted.

Inspector Philippa Burk states that: “While it’s unfortunate that the incident occurred, the Bridgewater community and general public can be reassured that the swift and professional response by all Tasmania Police officers involved in this matter meant that this suspect was taking into custody 10 minutes after the robbery. This is outstanding work and I commend the work of my officers to bring about the quick resolution of this matter, ensuring the safety of the public could be maintained.”
