Man seriously injured after tree collapse

Police and emergency services were called to attend the eastern side of the Launceston Cataract Gorge after a tree fell on a man working in the area about 1.45pm today.

The 51year old man was one of two workers in the vicinity inspecting a drain unrelated to the tree.  It is understood the tree collapsed without warning falling out from the root structure.  The injured man is being flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries.

The other worker present was treated for shock and minor injuries only.

Work Safe Tasmania also attended the scene and are investigating.
