Police have seized a motorbike as part of an investigation into a serious evade incident at Prospect in the state’s North on Saturday 15 August.

Road policing officers were responding to another incident on the Bass Highway about 10pm, when a motorcycle approached their location at speed.

The motorcycle slowed and briefly stopped before accelerating towards the officers, causing a side mirror to hit several officers and break off.

The rider left the area, failing to stop for police.

As a result of investigations, the unregistered bike was located and seized from an address at Summerhill on Tuesday.

During a subsequent search of the address, police located a backpack containing a motorcycle helmet, as well as a replica firearm, and a quantity of illicit substances.

A 36-year-old Summerhill man has been questioned in relation to the investigation, with charges being considered.

Commander Marco Ghedini said this was a serious incident, and while the officers were not physically injured, the result could have been very different.

“Locating and seizing the motorcycle involved is the result of extensive enquiries undertaken to date, and as I have said previously, this behaviour simply won’t be tolerated,” he said.

“Our officers have the right to conduct their duties without being put in danger through such idiotic and reckless actions.”

“We encourage anyone with information about the rider involved, or the incident more broadly to come forward and report to police.”
