Motorcycle impounded for speed

At approximately 9:40am yesterday (Monday, 12 December 2011) a 21 year old male L-Plate motorcycle rider was detected by a speed camera travelling at 148km/h on the Bass Highway at Penguin.

The motorcycle rider was subsequently spoken to by Police in Wilson Street, Burnie.  His motorbike was seized and impounded and he is to be proceeded against for speeding and dangerous driving.

Motorists are reminded that driving in a manner like this will at the very least result in a hefty fine, the seizure or clamping of your motor vehicle or motor cycle and a substantial disqualification period.  It also risks the lives of the driver/rider and the lives of pedestrians and other motorists.

Motorists are urged to drive with care and consideration on all occasions, especially during the Christmas holiday period which generally means more traffic on the roads.
