Just after 10am today, Northern Road Policing Services intercepted a motorcycle on Hobart Road at Breadalbane after it was detected travelling at 97km/h in a posted 60km/h zone.

The rider, a 33-year-old Longford man, was quickly stopped by police and issued an infringement notice attracting a $639 fine and five demerit points. The speed recorded was just 1km/h below the threshold for an automatic three-month licence disqualification.

Motorcyclists are among our most vulnerable road users. Travelling 37km/h over the speed limit significantly increases the risk of a serious crash and the severity of any injuries sustained.

Speed limits are there for everyone’s safety. Please slow down, drive to the conditions and obey the road rules.
