Multi-Agency Traffic Operation in Central Highlands

Police have today conducted a large Multi-Agency Traffic Operation in the Central Highlands with the assistance of other Government Enforcement Agencies.

The operation was conducted between 10.30am to 2.30pm at the junction of Highland Lakes Road and Poatina Road, in conjunction with the opening of the Brown Trout season.

Members of Tasmania Police’s Bridgewater Division, Southern Road Policing Services, Marine Division, and the Dog Handlers Unit; together with Inland Fisheries Officers, Transport Safety Officers, Parks Rangers and Parks Compliance Officers, conducted Random Breath Tests, Drug Tests, Vehicle Checks, Wildlife and Firearms Enforcement as well as Inland Fisheries checks of motorists.
Acting Inspector Jason Klug said, “although the majority of motorists were doing the right thing, it is disappointing that we have detected people driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and driving unroadworthy vehicles”.

“Road trauma caused by crashes on our roads effects entire communities and Tasmania Police will continue to hold those people, who flaunt the law, to account,” said Acting Inspector Klug.

The Registrar of Motor Vehicles, Andrew Wright adds “Collaboration between enforcement agencies, which includes Transport Safety Officers, has a positive impact for safety on Tasmania’s Roads”.

Detections from today’s operations include:
2x Drink Drivers detected (readings of 0.14 and 0.09)
1x Driving whilst an illicit drug is present (cannabis)
3x minor firearm offences
31 vehicle defect notices issued
3x Unregistered vehicles
